Questo nuovo lavoro è nato come una sorta di ricerca stilistica, mi sono chiesto come avrei voluto affrontare un intero concerto in duo con un batterista, cosi’ ho cominciato a buttare giù qualche idea.
Le collaborazioni avute con Fabrizio, la scoperta del suo drumming insolito,radicato nella contemporaneità, denso di stili Rap, Funky, Drum and Base, jazz, ma sempre all’insegna della libera reinvenzione, hanno decisamente influenzato le mie composizioni.
Ho creato dei campionamenti elettronici che caratterizzano quattro di queste composizioni, non come una base sulla quale suonare, ma come suggestioni che intervengono a creare l’arrangiamento dei brani, questi campioni vengono lanciati durante la performance tramite l’utilizzo di un pad in modo estemporaneo, ad esempio nella prima song dal titolo “Popop” che apre l’album, si sovrappongono alcune voci maschili estrapolate da una composizione di Karlheinz Stockhausen intitolata ” Stimmung”, e campioni di voci femminili tratte da una composizione di Morton Feldman intitolata ” Three voices”, nella quarta song dal titolo “Azzz” ho sovrainciso vari saxofoni che vengono manipolati durante l’improvvisazione,nella song intitolata ” Interpolation” ho rielaborato alcuni pattern melodici tratti dal celebre trattato di Nicolas Slonimsky” Thesaurus of scales and melodic “patterns”, per la song ” Five” ho realizzato delle suggestioni timbriche, nella song ” A quiet saturday” intervengo semplicemente sul timbro del saxofono con una distorsione, le altre tre composizioni sono assolutamente acustiche ” Africa twilight ” è una melodia evocativa, ” To rave party”è un tema nato da un’improvvisazione libera,
che abbiamo formalizzato per creare un brano dedicato al free degli anni 70′, ” El tanguero desperado” è proprio
una canzone in forma di tango molto ironica.
Ci siamo divertiti molto, e anche il live, che poteva mettere a dura prova gli ascoltatori, è stato molto apprezzato,
per questo ho scelto di intitolare l’album “MUSICAL TOYS”abbiamo davvero giocato.

This new work was born as a kind of stylistic research, I asked myself how I would approach an entire concert as a duo with a drummer, so I started jotting down some ideas.
The collaborations I had with Fabrizio, definitely influenced my compositions. Thanks to his unusual drumming, rooted in the contemporary, dense of diverse styles such as: Rap, Funky, Drum and Base, Jazz, always under the sign of free reinvention.
I have created electronic samples that characterize four of these compositions, not as a base on which to play, but as suggestions that intervene to create the arrangement of the songs. These samples are launched during the performance through the use of a pad extemporaneously, for example in the first song entitled “Popop” which opens the album, some male voices extrapolated from a Karlheinz Stockhausen composition titled ” Stimmung,” and samples of female voices taken from a Morton Feldman composition titled ” Three voices” are overlapped; in the fourth song titled “Azzz” I overdubbed several saxophones that have been manipulated during the improvisation. In the song titled ” Interpolation” I reworked some melodic patterns from Nicolas Slonimsky’s famous treatise” Thesaurus of scales and melodic patterns”, for the song ” Five” I made timbral suggestions, in the song ” A quiet saturday” I simply intervene on the timbre of the saxophone with a distortion, the other three compositions are absolutely acoustic ” Africa twilight” is an evocative melody, ” To rave party” is a theme born from a free improvisation, which we formalized to create a song dedicated to the free 70ies; “El tanguero desperado” is just a song in the form of a very ironic tango.
We had a lot of fun, and even the live show, which could put a strain on the listeners, was very much appreciated, which is why I chose to title the album “MUSICAL TOYS” because eventually we really played
